3 dead after man goes on stabbing spree in Shanghai Walmart

At least three people were killed, and 15 others injured after a man went on a stabbing spree inside a Walmart store in Shanghai. The police have identified the suspect as a 37-year-old who came to the city to “vent his anger due to a personal financial dispute”.
The incident on Monday night came on the eve of China’s week-long National Day holiday, when the country sees a spike in tourism.
The police confirmed on Tuesday that the suspect had been detained.
The Walmart store is located in Shanghai’s densely-populated Songjiang area, which also houses several universities.
According to the police, the victims succumbed to their injuries in a hospital, while the injured persons “did not sustain life-threatening wounds” and are believed to be out of danger.
In recent months, China has witnessed a spike in knife attacks as the country has enforced a ban on firearms.
A 10-year-old Japanese boy was stabbed to death near his school in the city of Shenzhen in September. In June, four US college instructors were stabbed in a public park in the northeast city of Jilin.
Meanwhile, in May, two people were killed, and 10 others injured when a knife-wielding woman went on a stabbing spree at a primary school in Jiangxi province.
